The municipal pool will be closed for several days (20/11/2008)

Early in the afternoon of Wednesday 19 the departments of Health and Sports City of Alhama de Murcia received the news that several children in town had come to the pediatrician with rash and the probable link between them was being Indoor pool users.

Immediately and as a preventive measure, the City of Alhama de Murcia opted for the temporary closure of the pool as recommended by the Health Service Environmental Health Counseling and initiated the protocol for the possible infection of Molluscum Contagiosum.

Although there is no problem, the City must follow the established protocol and is waiting for the Environmental Health Service says it may already be open by the pool, which can occur in several days.

That indicated this morning at a press conference the Councillor for Sports, Jesus Basauri and the mayor of Health, José Miguel Muñoz.

Molluscum contagiosum is spread through contact with infected person's skin and the various elements that children do exercises and games in the pool, through the water.

It is likely that this infection was spread by someone who had it and who used municipal service.

It is a benign virus that acts on the skin that is characterized by a relatively small number of dome-shaped papules, well-demarcated, flesh-colored to translucent, some with central dimpling.

Lesions commonly seen on the trunk, face and extremities, but can be generalized.

It is transmitted by direct contact of an ill person or contaminated materials such as towels.

The risk of transmission is low to moderate and the incubation period is 2 weeks to 3 to 6 months.
