Chronicle itinerary Sierra de la Muela SENDALHAMA (21/10/2015)

On Sunday October 18, coinciding with the last departure from the 2015 season SENDALHAMA, 80 walkers prepared to go in its entirety alhameña neighboring Sierra de la Muela.

First thing in the morning and it was predicted that the day was going to be starring pleasant temperatures and a good clear atmosphere which helped to interpret both the landscape of the region of Alhama and different ranges of the Region of Murcia .

The first contact with the itinerary was on the veranda of the Tooth, where triggers the cameras were ringing in the middle of the quiet Sunday morning.

Here the Councillor for Environment welcomed walkers, invited them to enjoy the wonders of this route and took the opportunity to announce that on Thursday, November 19 was to be held at the House of Culture closing ceremony of routes 2015. Next, the guides did a review of the main characteristics of the route to perform as well as safety standards and recommendations for the proper functioning of the activity.

One of the attractions that had this out was, undoubtedly, the selfless intervention of Manuel Gambín, a character who already are left few.

A living in the Sierra de la Muela and the gorges of Gebas who, visibly moved legend, recounted in front of all participants attentive memories of youth in their wanderings through this area.

His words transported us to a not too distant time when the difficulties mingled with the happiness of growing up in a single environment.

Then, walkers began to walk the stretch separating them from the geodesic de la Muela, through the game reserve area of Mount Public de la Muela, where the guides explained the management of hunting it is done in this mountain through feeding, watering and planting of ancient ravines.

In a section of this route a muddy area was used to explain some of the traces left by animals that help to know of their presence and their habits.

In this case, the evidence of the passage by the place of squirrels and wild boar served to talk about these two species.

After he deserved lunch, and typical group photo at the highest point of the mountain, a tour of the rope of the mountain, where participants gave free rein to the imagination while interpreting the rock formations of the southern side began.

A real treat for the senses.

Senses that had to be converted into attention when the dizzying descent into the Tajo-Segura became clear a few meters ahead.

At this point of the tour it was when surprised faces were infecting among the walkers, and is a natural window framed copies of Aleppo pine showed up one of the highlights of the route: the reservoir of Algeciras.

A real feast for the eyes.

This unexpected body of water like out of nowhere was our constant companion travel to reach its viewpoint in which, after a brief explanation from the guides, were other few pictures to remember.

From there, following the transfer, we move into an old path that began to caress the gentle slopes of the shady side of La Muela, up to a forest track that would leave us soon after, under the feet of the centenary Pino Grande.

After this interpretation must stop the walkers attacked the final climb of the day, visiting one of the oldest areas of cultivation area, where little later were waiting buses.

Again Sendalhama met the objective of combining hiking and interpretation of the environment, as we discovered curiosities guides possibly have overlooked.

A review of the compatibility of public use activities was made, as well as the occasional negative impact to the environment.

They knew firsthand the uses of some plants and their adaptations to the Mediterranean climate.

Among other things, we could enjoy the flyby of a pair of kestrels, also playing the tracks of many animals that roamed the woods hours before we passed.

As on many other occasions in collaboration with the Civil Defence volunteers, both those who were walking with the elongated "multicolored snake" as the walkers who accompanied us in the support vehicle, it was decisive for the success of this activity.
