Alhama becomes an accessible route (15/09/2015)

Last August were undertaken in our town works to improve the accessibility and signaling accessible urban route through the town of Alhama de Murcia.

This action has been carried out by the Commonwealth Tourism Espuña and is included in the project "accessible routes in the region of Sierra Espuña and dissemination", for which the Commonwealth gained support LEADER and EAFRD for a total amount of 98 690 00 €.

The project consists of several actions, one of which is the creation of accessible in each of the five municipalities of the Commonwealth (Aledo, Alhama, Mula, Pliego and Totana) accessible route and other routes around the Visitor Center Ricardo Codorniu .

To create this path small works have been implemented in order to eliminate architectural barriers and proceeded to vertical and horizontal signaling.

Alhama works have included the trimming of some curbs, bollards removal, adjustment of ramp and repainting crosswalks.

As for signaling, they have been placed in eleven vertical signals the most emblematic of the town and are embedded in the pavement several metal plates marked "Territory Espuña" to help guide you through this route.

For the design of the route and the vertical signals the Commonwealth has been advised of technicians PREDIF (State Representative Platform for Physical Disabled Persons) who visited our town.

The signs, which read briefly describes the point where they are, have been written in easily readable text and in the case of Alhama include a QR code which refers to the website of the Department of Tourism, where through text or a phrase we have more information in both Spanish and English.

Thus, with a smartphone we have an audio guide of the route to see interesting facts about the City, Old Town Square, the Church of the Conception, The Granary, etc.

The signal also includes a QR code with the speech text will soon sign work, when completed construction of the new site of the Commonwealth.

In addition to these routes accessible, the project includes other actions such as the publication of a brochure, disseminating routes in the APP specializing in accessible tourism TUR4ALL or holding a conference that took place in Mula in July, to sensitize councilors and technical municipal and promote the implementation of tailored services.

There is much work ahead to improve these routes, such as providing them with accessible street furniture.

The work carried out so far are just the first step in making Espuña Alhama and Territory as an affordable destination development strategy and as a differential element.
