Press release of the PP in Alhama de Murcia on Education (11/06/2015)

Following the events on Friday and the subsequent succession, it has called into question the work that the Popular Party has been doing since forever, in defense of public education and in accordance with Article 27 of the Constitution which recognizes the right to education and academic freedom.

The mayor, Alfonso Fernando Cerón, Murcia held a meeting last week with the Minister of Education and Director of Educational Planning and Human Resources, in order to prevent the closure of the classroom.

The problem is that there are not enough children to complete the minimum squares, and the absence of sufficient demand the Ministry of Education can not economically sustain a classroom without students.

In 2012 there were fewer births, plus the mobility of families that has occurred in recent years in the city.

The municipality has no powers of schooling and therefore we can not decide whether to close or open classrooms, competencies lie with the region.

In other populations suffer problems of overcrowding of students in Alhama when the legislature also began centers were suffering the mass, which generated a deep malaise to parents and their children were moved to other centers that had asked in third and fourth option, with conflict and anxiety that this situation occurred families.

However, for next year the situation has become reversed, so that the regional administration took the decision to close a classroom.

The City Council has defended keep open the classroom Ginés San Cristobal Diaz School.

The mayor of Education, Mrs. Ana Bastida Fernández, has been in continuous contact with representatives of parents, the center's director and the Ministry of Education trying to solve the current situation.

Yesterday, Wednesday 10th, the mayor, Alfonso Fernando Cerón Morales and the area councilor, accompanied the representatives of parents and the political representatives to a meeting with the Director General of Human Resources and Educational Planning, D. Enrique Ujaldón.

Finally, we have reached an agreement on the closure of the classroom Gines Diaz School.

It has been agreed in a compromise to maintain the classroom during the next year, depending on your service the next year based on the number of children.

This decision was initialed with the signature of the parties involved, the FAPA and political groups

Our commitment has always been to defend a free, quality education where parents have a free choice of schools, because education is for us one of the fundamental pillars of society and that our children are the future.

On the other hand, we strongly belie that runs down the street on which the council has favored the concerted school, the City of Alhama has not given grants or any help or ease of implementation.

It is totally false what is being said out there and that is orchestrated by any political group that is very interested in generating controversy with the subject of concerted school.

However, we have bent over backwards to public schools, we have worked to improve public education and facilities, contributing whatever we could and allowed us, for next year the public school Antonio Machado have a canteen service.

We also want to lend a hand to those who have orchestrated this campaign nonsense to the concerted school, reminding him that when he governs is for everyone and parents who take their children there are also alhameños.

That detail should not forget.

We have it clear, education is a serious issue and it deserves our respect, so we understand that should not be politicized as it is of great importance for the future of children.

We defend public education, but we respect parents who bring their children to the concerted, because for us are parents and also alhameños, which has our support and our respect because we understand that they can live the two systems with respect without harming each other.
