The director of Cultural Assets visit Alhama and supports the restoration of the lower castle grounds (16/12/2014)

The Director General of Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, visited last Wednesday Fortress Castle Alhama de Murcia accompanied by the local mayor, Alfonso Ceron and the mayor of Culture and Heritage, Carmen Maria Rodriguez.

The three, accompanied by the technician Culture, José Bathrooms, held a working meeting to discuss the project of restoration and enhancement of the strength of Islamic origin built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, part of the so-called path Guadalentin fortifications.

Thus, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities has shown its support for the project that the City of Alhama de Murcia plans to send to the Ministry of Public Works to undertake the restoration of the lower castle grounds.

"This is a critical infrastructure, along with the other fortifications nestled in the valley of Guadalentín, gives us lots of information and data of medieval architecture and the defensive organization of the territory in two large cities like Murcia and Lorca. Its restoration will recovery of valuable historical heritage and the future shape of a tourist route that revolves around our heritage, our culture and our history, "said Maria Comas.

Specifically, the project involves an investment of just over 1.5 million euros to complete restoration of the lower castle grounds, declared of Cultural Interest in 1985. The Director General of Cultural Property and the Mayor of Alhama visited Also the Archaeological Museum Los Baños of the town, which was declared a Cultural two years earlier, in 1983.
