Motion: About unconventional gas extraction (21/05/2013)

Fracking is a novel technique for extracting gas unconventional certain deep strata consisting essentially underground drilling vertically and horizontally to cause fractures therein and injected through the same a mixture of water, sand and chemical products pressurized to disintegrate rock and allow the exit of gas trapped and could not be obtained otherwise, for being impermeable porous rocks.

This technique is very invasive and aggressive with the environment and has a number of health and environmental impacts, some of which are not yet fully characterized or understood: among others, greenhouse gas emissions, pollution of underground aquifers, the uncontrolled discharge of sewage, pollution generation, a potential seismic impact on small and medium earthquakes intensity, noise and landscape impacts.

All alarms have jumped when it is known that "the Government of Murcia is processing the request made by the company Oil and Gas Capital for a research permit that allows the location of hydrocarbons in the region, particularly in the Northwest region; in fact, the company has already obtained the approval of the Directorate General for the Environment ".

We must remember that "it is a controversial technique that is banned in several U.S. states, some European countries and has been banned in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria".

Also several municipalities in our region have been declared "free town fracking as" as Totana and Mula.

loans to a geological type whose risks are considerable and far from being properly evaluated, authorized behind the citizenship given the total disregard for public opinion about the possible consequences of practices that can seriously affect the environment sustains us, the local production and social organization of our municipalities, there is great ignorance about the details of this technique, including the toxicity of the chemicals used in injections into the ground and the overall environmental impact commissioning looking initiatives would have on our territory, so that the social debate is essential prior authorizations.

Therefore, and "to the possibility of gas extraction by hydraulic fracturing technique (fracking) is installed in the region of Murcia and, of course, in some area of our municipality, the Municipal Group of Izquierda Unida- Green presented for discussion at the next plenary the following
