The old piano keys that presided over the main hall of the Balneario de Alhama sounded again after 100 years (18/05/2012)

On the occasion of International Museum Day the Department of Culture and Heritage held on the evening of Thursday 17, a concert that rang the old piano from Hotel-Spa.

After one hundred years, the ivory keys of the piano, played on the remains of what was his last and is now the Archaeological Museum of the Baths, hinted and feel the afternoons and evenings of society in the late alhama nineteenth century.

Under the Roman vault filled the entire audience chairs and space to witness what was a very special night because not only returned to play the piano, but his music accompanying the silent film fragments "La Verbena de la Paloma" 1921, recently recovered a film that has not been projected.

The event, presented by the Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Carmen Maria Rodriguez, was led by Jose Miguel Lorente Hernández, professor in the specialties of clarinet and piano at the Municipal School of Alhama and Totana and member of several musical groups and jazz.

It is intertwined piano music, images of the time when the conference sounded daily and Victor Javier Martinez, a graduate in Art History at the University of Murcia and the person responsible for tuning the piano , retaining all its original parts, has enabled it to ring again.

The piano, which was located in the Hotel-Spa in Alhama de Murcia, was donated to the City of Alhama de Murcia for the painter Maria Dolores Andreo Maurandi on behalf of his family in 2004.

The Andreo Maurandi were the last owners of the spa before it was demolished in 1972.

The upright piano is a piece of exceptional interest and of great historical and cultural value primarily to Alhama, as it is evidence of that last period of splendor of the baths of the late nineteenth century.

Thanks to recent studies by the musicologist Victor Javier Martinez, known to have been made in Berlin in 1890-91 around the house known for its signature as C.OTTO with serial number 2473/4.

The piano is located in the recreation room or spa company, served on many occasions for interpreting songs and recitals or other performances in the participating swimmers and neighbors, along with famous figures of our history, among which highlight the visits in the early twenties of Santiago Ramon y Cajal and Ms. during the bathing seasons, staying in the Spa.
