The City Council extends the number of containers of used oil with metal containers in the streets (11/11/2011)

Councillor for Environment, Diego Huertas, accompanied by Jose Martinez, a representative of FAVEMUR, an entity that is responsible for the collection of used oil.

Diego Huertas stressed the importance of recycling especially polluting elements such as cooking oil with a liter, can contaminate 1,000 liters of water.

In order to offer citizens a service of domestic oil removal, the City Council of Alhama joined dated January 15, 2008 to the Agreement signed by the Autonomous Region of Murcia and Aert FAVERMUR for the implementation of a separate collection of vegetable oils.

One type of particularly polluting urban waste consists of household consumption of vegetable oils derived from soy, sunflower and olive oils, which once used are generally discharged into the sewer system, resulting in an assault on the environment.

These discharges are clogging the drain pipes of our houses, in addition to interfering with the operation of treatment plants making the debugging process more expensive.

For example, to purify one liter of used oil is necessary at a cost of 2.5 euros.

In a first step PVC containers were installed inside the municipal and commercial establishments that voluntarily joined the agreement, currently operating 10 retail collection points and 9 in municipal offices.

During the years he has operated this system of collection, the volume of oil collected has increased, thanks to the publicity campaign carried out and increasing awareness of citizens.
