The City Council signed an agreement with Abraham Project for the installation of containers of clothing, footwear and toys (11/11/2011)

The Mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Fernando Alfonso Morales Ceron this morning signed an agreement with the Association for the collection of Abraham used clothing, shoes and toys.

On behalf of the association signed by the President, Rafael Sanchez.

Diego Huertas, its director, noted that, until now, the containers, which are already installed, have not given any problems and, far from it, are giving very good results.

He also expressed his conviction that the new service will be very well received at the same time serve to recycle and help in a consolidated project.

Alhama Mayor pointed out that in the 21 days leading positioned containers of clothes, shoes and toys have been collected 7,000 kilos of these wastes.

He also noted that, daily, locals throw in the normal 1,000 kilos of clothes, shoes and toys so that, henceforth, will be thrown to the specific containers for these materials, thus greatly improves waste separation for recycling.

Currently there are two points Alhama which traditionally has been depositing the clothing, which are the headquarters of Caritas and Red Cross, with a restricted schedule.

In this regard, the Council of Alhama want to improve the number of collection points for alhameños can selectively get rid of this waste containers placed in different parts of town along with other recycling containers (collection points).

In this way prevents this waste ends up in organic container.

The Abraham Project proposed agreement commits the Association to:

Collection of waste in containers at street two or three times a week according to season (there are 17 bins installed, 4 are owned by the City)

Installation and collection of containers door to door (when implanted) within forty-eight hours after the call of the entity attached.

Others weekly collection of the waste pickers.

Cleaning and maintenance of metal containers at street level.

Campaigns, information and awareness of the collection system, disposal of waste and environmental values.

Annual Report and investment results.

Quarterly Report.

To provide the infrastructure needed to execute correctly, the collection of waste textile, footwear and toys in the different collection systems proposed in this agreement.

Promote training and refresher courses for workers and users.

For its part, commits the City Council of Alhama to:

Facilitate the development of the activities covered by this Agreement.

Applying social media campaigns.

Disclose all agreements between the parties hereto.

To facilitate the installation of recycling containers textile, footwear and toys.

Eliminating the false clothing collection campaign made in the town by putting up posters.

Facilitate contact with the various employers in the textile, footwear and toys.

The Abraham Project

Rafael Sanchez explained that Project Abraham is a non-profit organization dedicated to combating poverty and social exclusion in the region of Murcia, which uses as its main operating strategy and financing the collection and management of domestic waste textiles, footwear and toys.

This has the approval of the Autonomous Region of Murcia as manager of non-hazardous waste for that waste.

Abraham Project serves immigrants, children and people in general or at risk of social exclusion.

The main objective is to insert in society to the most vulnerable.

To meet this objective, the Association is currently working on new social programs:

This combination of social and environmental action's being done in our region since 1997, with such intensity and projection in 2007.

The collection of clothing, footwear and toys is one of their main sources of funding, maintaining a social project which has benefited more than 57 workers from working on the integration of waste collection, sorting and separation of same and care trace nearly 6,000 stores and direct beneficiaries.

Waste textile, footwear and toys collected in Murcia Abraham Project is dedicated to the reuse and recycling and donation usually target individuals derived from social services, social entities and persons covered by social programs Abraham Project , for sale sign in their stores, including activity within the socio-occupational programs of the association, or the sale of these companies recovered for recycling waste for reuse.

In total, 17 containers have been installed.
