Almost 5,000 people visited the exhibition of agricultural products which was closed yesterday by the Minister of Agriculture and the mayor of the municipality (10/10/2011)

The mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Fernando Alfonso Cerón Morales, received on Sunday morning 9 to Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá Cerdá, who came to the conclusion of the Competition - Exhibition of table grapes and agricultural products that Lower Guadalentín years has reached its 44 edition.

This time the exhibition has received 49 samples of grapes, citrus 65, 41 and 90 flowers of other products.

It is to note the increase of organic products in the sample and the presence of grape varieties near extinction, such as Napoleon and the varieties still under investigation.

As happened with the varieties of citrus.

Also, remember that this exhibition is the most visited of those made in the municipality.

In fact, the show closed last night with almost 5,000 visits.

The Minister of Agriculture and Water was accompanied by the director general of IMIDA (Instituto Murciano Research and Agricultural Development and Food), Adrian Martinez as well as Councillor for Agriculture, Miguel Gonzalez, who, during the closing ceremony, stressed the importance of the sector and their willingness to meet the demands that farmers want to expose, as well as working to improve, within their means the sector.

For its part, the mayor of the municipality, who during the previous term of Agriculture took the delegation, he listed the improvements that had gradually been able to do in the exhibition, the oldest in the municipality and the region.

He also expressed concern about the state of agriculture and its particular predisposition to try to reactivate and improve the sector.

He was the Minister of Agriculture who encouraged farmers to develop research and "apply the results of knowledge to the farm" for products of "higher quality, easier to produce and closer to consumer demands."

The counselor explained that the Region of Murcia has developed "a race against time" in the work of varietal conversion and production of new varieties such as cherry, peach, nectarine, apricot and grape.

In the case of grapes, said that "70 percent of which is grown in the region corresponding to seedless varieties."

In addition, Cerdá also reminded that agricultural activity "depends on the decisions made in the European Union, and in many cases are counter to the competitiveness of Mediterranean agriculture," so he added, "has to be profitable on its own itself, and for this we must invest in modernization. "

Tributes

Finishing the awards ceremony, the City wanted to pay homage to Carmen Segovia who during his career served as City Librarian, and since its inception and until his health permitted, was the secretary of the exhibition.

Also, the mayor, Fernando Alfonso Cerón Morales announced he was going to propose to Parliament that will bring its name to a street in the municipality.

Carmen Segovia was very excited and publicly thanked the act.

On the other hand, the mayor and council of Agriculture gave the counselor a plaque in gratitude for the continued support that the Ministry of Agriculture provides to concrete and exposure to the municipality in general.
