The City Council signs an agreement with AFEMTO for the care of minors with mental health problems (21/02/2018)

The mayor Alhama, Diego Conesa, and the president of the Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness of Totana (AFEMTO), Laura Lorca, have signed an agreement that will be valid for the next four years to collaborate in the program of attention to the child and youth population with mental health problems or risk of suffering it in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia.

AFEMTO has among its objectives the prevention of mental illness, as well as advice to families, promote autonomy and integration, guide and prevent school failure, advise educational staff and ensure the adaptation of children in their educational community.

For this, it aims to provide minors with a therapeutic support network in the school and family environment.

The City Council makes available to the association classrooms in public centers of municipal ownership, which can be used to care for children and adolescents who suffer from these diseases or are at risk of suffering them, attending to different levels of prevention.

Through this agreement, AFEMTO will provide psychological and social care to minors and families in Alhama through a professional graduate in psychology and specialized in mental illness.

It will provide services to children from 6 to 18 years old, up to 21 years of age in those cases in which it needs to be followed up and can not receive this care through other resources of the mental health network.

The program includes depressive, anxiety, behavior and learning disorders, as well as care for victims of traumatic events, abuse, disadvantaged groups, and minors with parents who suffer from mental illness.

The attention will be given individually to minors and families, but also through group interventions.

All the schools and institutes of the municipality, as well as the Alhama health center, the Early Intervention center, the Social Services center and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit of the Health Center of San Andrés (Murcia) can benefit. .
