Alhama and Alcantarilla, joined by a third lane in the A-7 (11/01/2018)

The Official State Gazette (BOE) published this past Wednesday, January 3, the public information file and the layout project 'Autovía A-7.

Extension to third lane by road between kilometer points 627.3 and 650.6, section: Alhama de Murcia - Sewer Link.

The Ministry of Development approved the work for this section, which currently has two lanes for each direction and through which an average of 41,000 vehicles circulate a day, reaching 47,000 in the month of July.

From Alhama to Almeria, the intensity drops to an average of 32,000 vehicles.

The construction of a third lane on both roads of the A-7 highway between Alcantarilla and Alhama will increase the capacity of the highway and improve its service level.

A budget of 97.3 million euros is estimated for the works.

The project is located in the municipalities of Alhama de Murcia, Librilla, Murcia and Alcantarilla.

Also, they emphasize the measures of acoustic protection, especially in Librilla with an investment in anti-noise screens that exceeds 6 million euros.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

This project foresees action on 4 underpasses and 2 higher ones, the expansion of 2 drainage works, the expansion of 3 viaducts and the construction of a new viaduct.

The set of necessary actions includes the following: construction of third lanes on both sides of the highway, remodeling of links adapting the branches to the new third lanes, rearrangement of existing accesses, works of adaptation of median that aim to improve visibility and adaptation to the new regulation of barriers, regularization actions of the cant, and actions in all the structures that require expansion by the new third lanes.

Each of the two projected roads will be constituted by 3 lanes of 3.5 m each, outer shoulders of 2.5 m, interior shoulders of 1.50 m, berms of 1.30 m and a median of variable width.

The works include the extension of the transversal drainage works located under the highway, as well as the underpasses.

Likewise, it has been planned to widen viaducts of the current highway.

In order to improve road safety and comply with the layout rule, it has been planned to rearrange some existing accesses and the provision of widening to improve visibility in curves.

In this same line, the project contemplates the installation of a safety barrier in median of the maximum level of containment to avoid that it can be exceeded by a large tonnage truck.

The mayor of Alhama, Diego Conesa, visited the Ministry of Development on September 18, 2015 to make various consultations and request the extension of a third lane for the A-7 highway, approaching with ministry technicians the traffic problems that could cause with the entrance and exit of trucks of the new companies installed in the municipality (http://ayuntamiento.alhamademurcia.es/noticia.asp?cat=5643).

Last November the City Council of Alhama made a claim to the project, requiring the Ministry of Development to complete the semielace of the Algeciras Dam at kilometer 596 (current), providing direct entry and exit from Almeria and direct access to Almería with its corresponding branches to the link.

Also requested to transfer the agreement approved in the Local Government Board to the Demarcation of Roads of the State in Murcia, as well as the Ministry of Presidency and Development of the Autonomous Community (http://ayuntamiento.alhamademurcia.es/noticia.asp? cat = 7072).

This allegation was rejected a few weeks ago, so the Mayor will meet next week with ministry officials to find a solution, taking advantage of his trip to Madrid on the occasion of FITUR 2018.
