The artist Murfy creates a mural in the Plaza de Abastos (04/11/2017)

Pedro López, Councilor for Urban Quality, presented together with the artist Andrés Guillén, better known as Murfy, the new mural located in the waste room of the Plaza de Abastos.

This idea of ​​the councils of Culture and Urban Quality with the aim of improving the image of medians and other public spaces of our municipality through urban art.

At the beginning of summer, the artist Murfy showed several projects to the Department of Culture and Heritage to carry out a proposal of large mural.

Since then both parties have been working and looking for suitable places to perform these actions, choosing two spaces: the Plaza de Abastos and the concrete wall in Antonio Fuertes Avenue, in front of the Palm Grove garden.

"The idea was to do it in a private medianeras, but we could not guarantee that those spaces were not built in a few years, so we decided to make public places," says Pedro Lopez, Councilor for Urban Quality.

The mural of the Plaza de Abastos is tricolor, linear and represents the products sold in that commercial area.

As for the work on Avda. Antonio Fuertes, "it will be more pictorial and with a lot of work," says Murfy, who thanked the City Council "who wanted to take risks and encouraged to continue doing projects as beautiful as this to continue sweetening and giving color to the town where we live. "

Within this initiative, the City Council of Alhama de Murcia will also hold workshops focused on young people who want to learn to paint in large format.

These classes will last approximately two months and will be held on weekends.

Andrés Guillén Cazorla 'Murfy' (Alhama, 1980) is an illustrator and graphic designer.

Andrés Guillén has a degree in BBAA from the University of Granada and a diploma in graphic design. He works in various fields: illustration, comics, graphic design and animation.

He has participated in projects such as La Mona and Boquerón and Hormigas climb the tree.

Collaborator of the Puertas de Castilla Center and the LAB, as well as of various town halls and festivals.

He also teaches courses on digital illustration techniques.
