In recent days, the Wetland Monitoring Team in which this duck known as malvasía cabeciblanca is present is taking samples of the bottoms of the lagoons of Las Salinas de Alhama de Murcia with the end of performing an analysis of the trophic state (availability of Food) of the wetland.
This team depends on the Office of Socioeconomic Impact of the Environment (OISMA), the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment.

The objective of this analysis is to verify the abundance of food available for the malleia cabeciblanca, such as macroinvertebrates and aquatic plants.
Later, these samples are being analyzed in the laboratory to know the typology of this food, having observed that larvae of chironomids abound, a group of flying insects that includes mosquitoes, among others.
They are an important part of the diet of some water birds such as malvasia
The chironomid larvae found in the samples are part of the malvasia diet.
The results of this analysis confirm the presence in the wetland of different components of the diet of this threatened anatida.
These samples have been taken in lagoons 2 and 3 of the set of which integrate the wetland of the Salinas.
In May he will play again, but for the moment it has been confirmed in the visit of February 20 that in Lagoon 3 there were two males and one female beginning the first nuptial rituals.
In addition, that same lagoon counts on a pair of red duck and some specimens of mall frieze, calamón, spoon duck, mallard and common coot.
It is clear that with the last rains the lagoons of Las Salinas are once again a bustle of life.
