On-going restoration projects Castle and the site of the Paleras subsidized SEFCARM with the collaboration of Alhama (14/06/2016)

It aims to recover and value the archaeological site of Las Paleras, located in the most emblematic of Alhama as the Cerro del Castillo place.

This site, along with the Castle, is part of an interesting cultural and tourist resource on which we have been working to define as an Archaeological Park in the vicinity of the Archaeological Museum of Los Banos.

In it the consolidation and restoration of the wall structures recovered during projects of archaeological excavation and whose work includes six people occupy: a Diploma in Conservation and Restoration of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets five pawns, under the direction of Technical Culture and Heritage, José Serrano Baths and Municipal Architect, Sonia Bedetti Serra, both of Alhama de Murcia.

The objectives has determined what is to be achieved in relation to employment and in relation to vocational training, considering that action to develop a direct impact on a well of interest and its value, generating practical training for possible maintenance jobs or activities in the various tourist routes, etc.

The work will be carried out cleaning, consolidation, reintegration and restoration, involving diverse knowledge in cleaning and thorough excavation of the walls, spraying generally lime water, wetting structures and selection of stone to be used, chosen medium sized and in line with the wall to reintegrate.

Other works will be the preparation of geotextile mesh and fiberglass for regrowing walls, use of the plates to be used with the printed year of reintegration.

Similarly, protection and conservation activities will be conducted with maintenance in which they will be held to be pointed in the stone of the restored part, a little deeper to be recognized.

In the works of consolidation of the structures will be carried out through grouting, clogging of cavities by strengthening all the original muraria basis and then reintegrating the walls with height deemed necessary and that will be established by the Technical direction, according to the contributions made from the point of view of restoration, architecture and archeology.

This is undoubtedly making performances in one of the most important projects for the restoration of heritage of Alhama, on the Cerro del Castillo, known as Las Paleras place where this important defensive settlement is controlling the whole surrounding area occupying an area of ​​about 17,000 square meters.

Archaeological excavations have documented a fortress, located in the highest part of the site, and a town that includes a set of social housing by a perimeter wall that defines and protects the whole.

This project of the City of Alhama de Murcia intends to carry out a performance of excavation and restoration at the Castle of Alhama and its surroundings, XI-XVI centuries, with the basic premises the work of preventive conservation and restoration of one of the most important monuments Alhama.

Both the training and practical work of workers and collective consciousness recovery of own equity itself, generates arguments disclosure of identity and heritage values.

With these performances in the Castle, next to the Archaeological Museum of Los Banos, it is expanding the cultural and tourist offer of the municipality creating a monumental journey of great interest.

The performances will take place following the basic criteria that set guidelines Heritage Service, interdisciplinary, compatibility, readability, minimal intervention and maximum reversibility.
