Alhama promotes the empowerment of women through the ´Valkiria´ project (24/11/2020)

On Thursday, November 12, the 'Valkiria' initiative began, a program aimed at empowering women in situations of social vulnerability, developed by the CAVALLI Foundation in collaboration with the Center for Specialized Attention to Women Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI) and funded by the Alhama de Murcia City Council.

The idea arises from participatory budgets, where the residents of the municipality have collaborated in deciding where to invest a part of the municipal budget. The project offers free participation to a group of women to support their personal processes, promoting assertiveness, empathy, social skills, self-concept and motivation as key elements to improve their health.

It consists of 12 sessions in which, through therapeutic activity with horses, in a natural environment, they can reduce stress and anxiety levels by overcoming fears and fostering self-confidence.The program, which ends on December 15, has as its main objective to accompany and empower these women through the promotion of their self-esteem, through this educational and therapeutic activity with animals.

It has a multidisciplinary team specialized in this field.

The activities are grouped into three modules: 'Caring for them to take care of myself', 'Leadership sessions' and 'Empowering riding'.

In the therapeutic process, the horse acts as a catalyst for emotions; The positive relationship that the participants develop with the equine and group work facilitates a better self-concept, being able to carry out new tasks with greater confidence. The Mayor of Alhama, Mariola Guevara, and the Councilor for Equality, Nani Navarro, together with the therapeutic team of the CAVALLI Foundation, have accompanied the participants in the group session held.

In it, they have been able to exchange opinions regarding the benefits of the program and the high degree of involvement shown by the participants, encouraging them to move forward and making it clear that one of the objectives of the City Council is to offer resources to improve women's health, advance in gender equality and the commitment to eradicate any manifestation of violence in our municipality.
