The CES program adds 54 new feral cats since last June (06/10/2020)

This morning the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Antonio Espinosa, and the technician of this area, Manuel Águila, held a meeting with Ángel Roa, the veterinarian in charge of the contract for the monitoring and hygienic-sanitary maintenance and population control service of the colonies of feral cats in the municipality of Alhama through the CES program, in which the work carried out to date has been reviewed.How does the CES program work?1.

Location and characterization of the feral cat populations in the municipality.2.

Catching the cats.3.

General health examination.4.

Sterilization of males and females.5.

Internal and external deworming.6.

Euthanasia, always in accordance with the provisions of Law 6/2017.

Where appropriate, euthanasia must include the incineration of the animal.7.

Census of each animal (description, health status, place of collection, place of release, photograph and any other information that helps to identify them).

Each animal will have its own identification card.8.

Marking on the ear, differentiating males from females.9.

Microchip installation.10.

Let go of the cats.11.

Post control.The system begins by placing capture cages-traps in the evening hours, where once they are locked up, the cats are transferred to the veterinary center to carry out the sterilization process (surgery), microchipping, deworming and their marking.

After the process they are returned to the capture area.Since this new edition of the program began, on June 11, 54 cats have passed through it, captured in different parts of the municipality.

Which are added to the hundred felines that were treated in the 2019 program.The objectives of the service are the promotion of the protection and welfare of cats, the establishment of control measures, the improvement of the sustainability and coexistence of these animals in their relations with the inhabitants of Alhama, and the prevention of health problems safety derived from the presence of feral cats.
