The municipalities of Sierra Espuña will execute a Tourism Sustainability Plan of 2.75 million in the next three years (02/10/2020)

| The Tourism Sustainability Plan of the Sierra Espuña Territory has been selected by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism from among 154 presented in the call | The Sierra Espuña Territory Plan has been drawn up in a participatory manner among all local agents who, led by the Sierra Espuña Commonwealth, have tried to find solutions to the problems that tourism and hospitality companies, neighbors, associations and municipalities (Aledo , Alhama de Murcia, Librilla, Mula, Pliego and Totana), have been identified in the territory to make it an ecotourism destination. The plan contemplates the adaptation of tourist resources and the improvement of the state of conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the destination, actions to promote the quality of services and their competitiveness, promotion, training and encouragement of participation.

In addition, the actions are aligned with the sustainable development objectives of the United Nations and other local and regional plans such as the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism of Sierra Espuña, the Regional Tourism Master Plan and the strategy for adaptation to climate change. The Sierra Espuña Territory and the municipalities that comprise it have already been working for years to articulate their entire tourist offer under the emblem of the Sierra Espuña Natural Park and with this plan they also intend to give a boost to agro-tourism and cultural tourism due to its potential to create new business opportunities in towns and villages. The planned investment for the development of the Plan amounts to 2,750,000 euros, of which the contribution of the municipalities will be 20 percent and the remaining 80 percent will be financed at 40 percent by the ministry and the Autonomous Community.25 Spanish tourist destinations, of the 154 that have submitted proposals, have managed to obtain help to implement a sustainability plan.

The Ministry intends with these grants to modernize the offer and activate ecotourism in the regions of inland Spain. The decision was taken at the Tourism Sector Conference, chaired by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, accompanied by Fernando Valdés, Secretary of State for Tourism and the regional councilors of the branch.
