City Council and Merchants Association, hand in hand to promote and maintain this sector (30/09/2020)

The Alhama de Murcia City Council, through its mayoress Mariola Guevara, and the Municipality's Merchants Association, represented by its president Rocío Rubio, have renewed the collaboration agreement between both parties, for an amount of 6,000 euros consigned in the 2020 municipal budget.By virtue of the agreement, the association may carry out those activities decided by its board of directors for the promotion, dissemination, recruitment of partners and publicity of local commerce.On April 24 of this year, during a state of alarm, the Plenary approved an extraordinary amount of 859,248 euros to face the economic and social crisis.

Of that money, 321,000 euros were allocated to aid lines for the sectors affected by Royal Decree 463/2020, mainly commerce and hospitality.

To date, a total of 219 businesses in the municipality have distributed 143,810 euros of this economic reactivation plan launched by the City Council.Two months later, on June 17, the mayor and the president of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Murcia signed a collaboration agreement for the implementation of the CámON! to provide small businesses and retail establishments in Alhama with a tool with which to reactivate their sales, while at the same time providing help to families to make their purchases.

The purpose was to encourage consumption at a time of economic and social crisis, provide liquidity to small establishments by discharging their accumulated stock during the period of confinement and obtain funds to restart their operating cycleas well as to make the social population aware of their purchases and of the importance of carrying out an important part of them in businesses in their immediate surroundings.

Thus, the Chamber of Commerce and the City Council issued a series of bonds for a price of 15 euros each, exchangeable for purchases worth 25 euros in participating commercial establishments.

The remaining part of each bond (10 euros) was financed through free contributions made by the Alhama City Council (12,0000 euros) and the Chamber itself.

In just a few days all the bonds were sold out. Along the same lines, the City Council is preparing a new batch of checks to obtain direct discounts of 10 euros for purchases of 30 euros or more in shops and hospitality establishments in Alhama, which will be launched in the coming days.Also, in the month of May, the Department of Commerce distributed a hand dispenser and a five-liter bottle with hydroalcoholic gel to all the businesses and hotel establishments in the municipality that have been forced to close or have suffered the consequences of the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, out of a total of 500 units purchased by the Alhameño Council.
