The Civil Guard investigates a neighbor of Alhama de Murcia for the violent death of a cat (04/09/2020)

The investigation began thanks to citizen collaboration, when a neighbor of Alhama de Murcia alerted the Local Police of the municipality that when he was walking along the path of the castle of Alhama he observed how an individual beat a cat with a stick to death. This fact was reported to the Civil Guard, so specialists from the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) collected the necessary information to locate the body of the dead animal, inside a garbage bag, inside a waste container urban municipalities. The investigation that followed culminated in the identification of a 51-year-old man from Spain, a resident of Alhama de Murcia, who has been prosecuted as the alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals by animal abuse. The person investigated and the proceedings brought have been made available to the Investigative Court of Totana and the Murcia Environmental Prosecutor's Office. Crime of animal abuse The crime of animal abuse is included in the Penal Code, which defines it as the act of unjustifiably mistreating animals, by any means or procedure, causing injuries that seriously impair their health and is punishable by three months and one day.
