The Alhama de Murcia City Council joins the recognition of nurses and midwives who celebrate International Nursing Day.

The Official College of Nursing of the Region of Murcia has convened this Tuesday, May 12 at 12:00 noon, a minute of silence to pay tribute to professionals in this sector who have been fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic at a high cost.

personal, so we encourage all the neighbors who wish to keep this respectful tribute from wherever they are, in their homes or workplaces, as a gesture of recognition towards the great work that these professionals carry out daily and that has put itself of even more prominent during the health crisis. The International Council of Nursing (ICN) has set May 12 of each year as the day to honor the work of nurses in the care of people's health.

Since then, ICN has been influencing all aspects that come together in the tasks performed by nursing professionals, from their own training to the universalization of health care.

In this tour they have addressed issues such as poverty and health, the family nucleus as the key to health care, the objectives of sustainable development, areas of work or nursing research.

For 2020 the ICN has set as a commemorative slogan “Nursing: a voice to lead.

Bringing the world to health ”.Further on this line, the Executive Council of the World Health Organization (WHO) designated 2020 as the “International Year of the Nurse and Midwife”.

Precisely this year and this May 12 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered the forerunner of modern professional nursing.

Her extensive knowledge of mathematics and her specialized health studies in epidemiology helped her promote health statistics and even created the first nursing school in 1860.

A woman who left such a mark that inspired the founding of the Red Cross and, later , receive numerous awards for their commitment to health.Coincidentally, 2020 has brought us one of the health events with the greatest impact worldwide, the Covid pandemic, the spread of a contagious disease that has tested the entire health system practically on a planetary scale.

And within the health system, the most important figure, its professionals. That is why in moments as hard and complex as those that we are having to live any opportunity is little to thank their efforts to all the professionals who are fighting to take care of our well-being, some supplying food, others watching the streets and others, those that now occupy us, watching over the health of all.

On this May 12, 2020, the year of the coronavirus pandemic, we want to show our appreciation and affection towards the entire group of nurses, also midwives and midwives, as they are integrated into that same group.

The Local Government Board approved last week that Alhama join this tribute that places value on the work of nursing and midwifery professionals for their great effort and dedication to people's health, group to which this City Council conveys its deepest affection.

A recognition that we extend to the entire group of health professionals who today continue to be at the forefront of the battle against Covid-19, to whom we also convey our most sincere attachment.
