The residents of Calle Bolivia, the story of a May of hope before an uncertain future (05/05/2020)

This past weekend will be remembered by many alhameños as the one who lived for the first time Los Mayos confined to their homes.

Our most unique festival, declared of National Tourist Interest in 2018, has grown and achieved such a distinction largely due to the work and effort of associations, groups, groups and neighbors in general, which with their scenes of rompers have turned the municipality every first May in a living museum. But this year, the irruption in our lives of the Covid-19 has prevented Los Mayos from taking to the streets, as it had been happening uninterrupted since in 1982 the Plenum of the City Council of Alhama de Murcia agreed to recover the party, prohibited the previous 40 years. The Town Hall initiative to adapt programming to social networks, in an unusual experience, has obtained a massive response.

Thus, all the proposals made have had an outstanding participation.

Especially the making of Crosses and Mays, with fifty hundred elaborations in both cases, even without there being bases, prizes or winners, just one publication and the option to "vote" your favorite. Among all the scenes of Mayos one of them has stood out for its large number of images and the accompanying message.

This is the composition of the residents of Bolivia Street, entitled 'Behind every glass there is a story to tell'.It all started as a simple idea ...

"Why don't we make a Mayo?" And it has ended up being a reflection of reality with a message of optimism and hope. Like every story, it has a principle:Once upon a time there were neighbors who lived down the Bolivian street, lived but did not feel, each one in his tasks and behind his brick walls, always in a hurry from here to there, a good morning with luck to whom at the door they found used to give.Until one day something happened that would change his vision of seeing life.

A great enemy had arrived on their planet, the coronavirus, which threatened to destroy them all, but they knew that if they hid behind its walls, he would soon disappear, and so they did, confined to their homes, they resisted in order to defeat him.

His main weapon would be UNION, they knew that together they could with him, every day at 20:00 they went out to his balconies, applauded, sang, played and laughed.Since then, the life of the doors, of the gatherings between them, of those moments of gossip, look closely at what I have cooked today, entered their lives, entered their houses, windows were opened and the curtains were drawn. This story, unlike others, has not yet come to an end, but what has been told so far shows that the wishes of each person, the shared illusion, the desire to get ahead and the spirit of struggle have always been, are and will be , the great victors. And that is how this beautiful desire to create our history together appeared through this great Alhama tradition that is Los Mayos, a story full of common values ??such as optimism, joy, hope, solidarity and love. The set consists of a dozen compositions made by each of the residents of Bolivia Street.

These are not independent works, but together they tell a beautiful story about the experiences that the coronavirus has made them live. The story begins around a main axis: communions.

These, like many other events, have been postponed over time, but for them it has not been a disappointment, since this neighborhood neighborhood, full of vitality and optimism, reflects in its Mayos the possibility of reinventing itself in difficult times and growing as Humans.
