The Murcia company Symborg will open a new plant in Alhama de Murcia to develop new product lines for the agricultural sector as a result of its research work.
The project, which will be developed in three phases until 2021 with a total investment of 28 million euros, foresees the construction of facilities to develop R&D activities, including an advanced biotechnology laboratory, as well as a manufacturing plant for the production of biofertilizers, biopesticides and biostimulants.
The new plant will be built on an industrial land of 40,000 m2 located within the industrial park of Alhama de Murcia.
The facilities will include a bioreactor plant, a fermentation plant and a new laboratory, as well as offices, which will allow the company's current research lines to be expanded to develop new solutions aimed at improving agricultural production in a sustainable way.
Once the new plant is finished, all the R&D, production and marketing activities currently being developed by the company will be moved to this new space, which will become its headquarters.
The activities of the seven international subsidiaries that the company currently has in Mexico, the United States, Turkey, China, Chile, Argentina and Brazil will be coordinated from its offices.
The company's estimates provide for the progressive hiring of up to 45 employees, which will be added to the 50 workers it currently has.
At the end of 2021, the global needs of the Symborg workforce are expected to be around 130 people in their different locations.
The new positions will be for factory workers, as well as technical profiles for product development and marketing.
In addition, it is estimated that the project will require the involvement of about 100 indirect jobs during its execution.
The project has had the advice and co-financing of the Institute of Development of Murcia and the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) under the Ministry of Economy.
For its launch, Symborg adheres to the Investment Acceleration Unit (UNAI) promoted by INFO so that the investment is developed as quickly as possible.
