This Saturday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m., the titular band of the Musical Group of Alhama de Murcia will participate in the XXIX National Music Band Contest 'City of Murcia', which will take place Teatro Romea de Murcia.
The Alhamean band will participate in the third section, in which they will compete with the 'Euterpe' Cultural Music Association of Santomera (Murcia) and the San Bartolomé Musical Union of Alicante.
Each musical formation will interpret three works, the first one, in the case of Alhama, will be a pasodoble entitled 'A mi madre', by the composer Roque Baños;
David Maslanka's second 'Give us this day';
and finally 'The last days of Troy', by David Rivas.
As a prelude, the Musical Group already presented these works on October 6 of this year at the XXXV Festival of Bands of Alhama, coinciding with the start of the festivities.
Last Saturday, he played them again at the concert in honor of Saint Cecilia that he offered at the Velasco Theater, as a "rehearsal" prior to the contest, obtaining in both cases the applause and recognition of the audience.
Before the performance of the Romea Theater, the bands will perform a parade (parades) through the center of the city of Murcia in which our group will play the pasodoble 'Fidelity', by maestro José Vélez.
Raúl López will be in charge of directing the titular band in the contest, after picking up the witness last April of the previous director, José Antonio Ayala, after 38 years in front of her.
During the concert of Santa Cecilia, López addressed the audience saying that the group "is very excited" with the participation in this event as well as that they go "to win", also encouraged all the residents of the municipality to attend the concert to that they feel surrounded by all the Alhameños, at the same time that he remembered that "the grouping is a sign of the culture of Alhama wherever it goes".
The first and only experience of this type for the Alhamean formation so far took place in 2003, when it was presented to the 1st Regional Contest of Bands of Bullas, in which it was in second position.
