Alhama's new skate park will open in a few weeks (30/10/2019)

This morning the Councilor for Sports, Rosa Sánchez, has met with the president of the Freestyle Skateboarding and Scooter Federation of the Region of Murcia, Asier Uriarte, as well as the secretary of this organization, Olga Tincu, and the professional skateboarder Miguel 'Miki' Huercan.

The objective of the meeting has been to gather information about the Official League of Skateboarding and Scooter, where Alhama could be added through the new facilities that he has arranged in the Nueva Espuña urbanization for the practice of this sport.

In that sense, the construction works of the new skate park have already been completed, standing on a track of 568 m2.

The furniture used has been reused from the first park of these characteristics of the municipality, which was opened to the public in July 2015 at the El Praíco sports center, in a space that has now been used for the construction of the third sports hall of Alhama, which will give service to the new IES Valle de Leiva during school hours and will be free to use in the rest of the time.

The work carried out for the conditioning of this place has consisted of the disassembly of the different elements for the correct execution of the works, followed by the cleaning and leveling of the base in the area delimited by the track for the elaboration of a floor of 12 cm thick, as well as the placement of a precast concrete curb to separate the perimeter.

The sports installation has been carried out according to the approval and safety regulations established for this type of spaces.

The prefabricated modules are municipal property and their placement has been in charge of the City Hall brigade, following the recommendations of the Alhama skate collective for their distribution.

In addition, the elimination of architectural barriers has been sought, in order to make the track fully accessible, being connected to the public highway through an itinerary for people with reduced mobility (#PMRAlhama).

The works, which have been carried out within a month, have involved an investment of 16,585.87 euros.
