Peña El Cocotazo presented today to the 33rd preacher of the Fair and Patron Festivities of Alhama de Murcia, José Pedro Cerón Carrasco, doctor of Chemistry and researcher.
The event has taken place in the plenary hall of the Consistory and has been attended by the mayor, Mariola Guevara, the councilor of Festejos, Pedro López 'Piqui', as well as members of El Cocotazo, friends and family.
Antonia Sevilla (El Cocotazo) has started making a mention to the communicator Fernando Rosa Gómez, who died recently, who was a preacher of the Fair in 2007.
Pedro López has highlighted this year's figure as someone "who represents us both inside and outside our municipality."
The newly appointed preacher has expressed that it was "a surprise" his choice.
José Pedro has coined the term "crier syndrome" to describe his feelings, and has structured it into three phases: first, disbelief;
then, pride and finally responsibility.
Cerón has described his work as a teacher, "I try to teach in a critical spirit, we don't have to believe everything because we do, but always asking ourselves why."
"I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, and in the meantime I dedicate time to research, to do something that can be useful for everyone."
Mariola Guevara has been "delighted and proud" with the decision, noting that the prestige of the pregonero 2019 is preceded by his talent.
The mayor has advanced that it will be a proclamation with "much pedagogy and academic details."
About José Pedro has indicated that it is "a neighbor of Alhama who is an international reference in the field of research and science, a mirror where young people can look and a hope in all those advances we need in medicine" .
The commission that has appointed the 2019 preacher has been composed of:
- José María Cánovas Vera
- Pepa Aledo Martínez
- José Antonio Ayala García
- Pedro López, Councilor of Celebrations
- Four members of the rock El Cocotazo
The reasons for the election of José Pedro: "Because of his professional career as a chemist in the branch of medicine inside and outside our borders, as well as his human courage to convey that within the small, sometimes, the greatness of the People and things.
Profile on the preacher of the Alhama Fair 2019, by Antonia Sevilla:
"CHEMISTRY. According to the definition of the SAR, chemistry is the science that studies the structure, properties and transformations of bodies from their composition.
José Pedro Cerón Carrasco obtained a Degree in Chemistry from the University of Murcia in 2004 and in 2009 obtained a Doctorate in CHEMISTRY from the same University with Cum Laude distinction and European mention.
Between one and the other he completed a PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at the University of Extremadura, a Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude at the Complutense University of Madrid, a European Master's Degree in Computational Modeling at the Autonomous University of Madrid and a Master's Degree in Quality and Environment Chemistry school of Murcia.
After obtaining the Doctorate he worked at the University of Namur (Belgium) and at the University of Nantes (France), the processes of spontaneous mutation of DNA.
Always a scholarship, both by the Science Foundation of the Region of Murcia, the Ministry of Science of Spain and the Marie Curie program of the European Commission.
One of his achievements, along with his research team, is a drug against the Zika virus which he has patented.
This year 2019 has been a few months in New York, thanks to a grant from the Seneca Foundation, with its project that consists of creating new molecules with anti-cancer properties.
The objective is to design as soap bubbles where the active agent is encapsulated and released right in the area of the tumor, thus preventing it from reacting with healthy tissues, thus reducing the side effects of anti-cancer treatments.
José Pedro also participates in national and international conferences, has published articles in international scientific journals and of course, a book entitled: Introduction to DFT (Functional Theory of Density) methods.

Dr. Joaquín Barroso who writes the prologue of this book says:… seek at every moment to connect the logic behind each decision that the computational chemist must make to carry out his research and does so without dying in the attempt.
All this leads us to look for how to connect the chemist with the natural person without dying in the attempt.
José Pedro was born in July 1980 in Alhama de Murcia.
Son of Paquita and Pedro are a family family of a lifetime.
His childhood and youth passes between studies and sports, playing football, good goalkeeper and running because that of running to see where that came from, is said to "run" as has always been said.
When the time comes to go to the University, you have nothing defined, you don't have a way to go or a clear idea of what you want to do.
It is necessary to make a decision and yes it is true that in his head is to do journalism or Hispanic philology for his taste towards writing, what he does is turn totally to the opposite side, chemistry.
He combines studies and work because the economy is not very buoyant and you have to help, at least to pay for the expenses caused by the studies.
So while mixing liquids in the test tube put coffee in the Lolo.
After years of study and coffees he obtained the Doctorate in Chemistry.
He puts this knowledge in favor of medicine because he wants to be useful for others and that is why he tries to identify drugs, make simulations of them to connect with health.
More than a researcher or scientist is a curious person who tries at all times to study, find out, find answers, ultimately create and if it is new matter better.
That is chemistry, where there is nothing to create it, mold it and take it to cover that hole where it fits.
José Pedro is a conversationalist and describes his work as a puzzle in which to fit the missing pieces after identifying them.
Is it because he is a big fan of board games?
He loves reading, the cinema, better if it is in black and white, he likes almost all the music and the parties spend them living them in blue night being a first to the Paco Jones first and later with his friends, to gain light to enjoy them day with his family.
He has discovered the usefulness of the parks and rides a bicycle accompanied by his family because for José Pedro this piece of the puzzle is very important, the union with his parents and sisters.
His profession could lead him to settle away and have a professional future, perhaps much more promising than it may be to have here but no, he has chosen to stay at home, in town, with his people.
Being here is due in the first instance to his parents, in the second to Monica, his wife and in the third instance to his political family.
Well, that is because the distant family that we are and life in the town so close.
Conversing with José Pedro is going to the past, going back to the present, going back again and suddenly taking a leap into the future.
In him he opts for teaching, although he has his experience because he already teaches at UCAM, and combines it with the research work at this same University.
When I asked him what he wanted to be of greater shock, he said: - How is it that I am older?
No, no, I have not thought about it, and when I reach the age of majority I will think about what to do.
And while that time comes we stay with José Pedro, humble, talkative, family member, his sister Loli serves as head of the press, likes animals at home lives Sir Newton, a hairy four-legged angora who loves to be stretched how long it is, José
Pedro also tries to play the electric guitar and is a hippie 10. Physical and chemical person, the two interconnected without knowing where one ends and the other begins.
We will wait for him to grow up to tell us what his choice is. "
