WORK FIELD IN ALHAMA DE MURCIA 2019

The development of the field of work is going to be carried out in the Las Paleras field of Cerro del Castillo, which has been excavated since 2006 and in the El Murtal site, site of the Rambla de Algeciras.

In the case of Las Paleras, an increasingly well-known site, the existence of a citadel and a walled town from the emiral period has been documented (late eighth century to mid-tenth century).

Both the architecture and the ceramic and archaeobotanical findings bring us closer to the daily life of these centuries, documented both in the citadel, with a quadrangular plan, and in the group of houses surrounded by a perimeter wall that has been excavated in the west and north area. .

The rooms have been built with stone plinths locked with earth and raised earth with pavements of rammed earth.

The decline and abandonment of the site towards the year 950, seems to coincide with a large fire documented throughout the space.

The actions that will be developed during the field of work are, on the one hand, excavation of areas determined by the continuity of the investigation and, on the other hand, specific works of cleaning, consolidation and restoration of walls and plasterwork will be carried out. they present a greater deterioration.

For the second consecutive year, archaeological excavations will take place within the framework of this field of Cerro del Castillo, and with the collaboration of the University of Murcia and the authorization of the Segura hydrographic Confederation, in Cabezo de la Fuente de El Murtal, 6th century a.

C. corresponding to a transition phase between the final bronze and the iron age.

In the same one it counts on the collaboration of students of the University of Murcia under the co-direction of Benjamín Cutillas, professor and researcher of the University of Murcia and of José Baños, Archaeologist of the City council of Alhama de Murcia.

The field of work 2019 has a team in which there will be four archaeologists, an archeobotanist, a restorer, draftsman and surveyor and most importantly a team of people made up of graduates and students of history, archeology, architecture, and interested in archeology

The participants come from Cartagena, Murcia, Lorca, Totana, and Alhama especially, within the regional scope, and Seville and Guadalajara of national scope.
