514 people served by the Red Cross during 2017 (03/09/2018)

The mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Mariola Guevara, and the president of the Red Cross in Alhama, José Luis Garre, today signed a new agreement between the two institutions that allows serving, among others, health emergency services in the municipality, as well as transport adapted for the elderly or with reduced mobility.

This relationship has been established since 2002 to count on the relief base that the Red Cross has in the locality, as well as with the medicalized advanced life support ambulance and its corresponding electromedicine and rescue material.

The agreement has been signed annually and represents a municipal contribution this year of 51,500 euros, which mainly covers the costs incurred by the ambulance, but also many others related to social intervention actions, training, volunteering, participation, organization and management.

This new agreement is structured in four large blocks:

· The first of these is the preventive coverage of events organized by the City Council that may have a foreseeable risk.

By 2018, a total of 111 events have been quantified, with a total of 1,390 estimated hours of dedication.

· The second block is transport adapted for the elderly and / or with reduced mobility.

· The third block refers to training, in this period aimed at cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the management of defibrillators, as well as basic first aid in the teaching center.

The fourth block is intended for the maintenance of defibrillators.

In this way, among the commitments to be fulfilled by the Red Cross, the agreement pays special attention to carrying out emergency and preventive activities to cover public, recreational-cultural, festive and sports events.

Among the first, the coverage of events of all kinds and, in general, any situation of mass presence of citizens and / or extraordinary risk and catastrophe.

Among the latter is basically the urgent social-sanitary transport throughout the municipality, always with support for the medical-facultative staff, most of them arranged by the 112 Emergency Coordination Center. On the other hand, the Red Cross collaborated in the transport of users of the Day Center for the Elderly and the Occupational Center "Las Salinas", in both cases services provided from Monday to Friday.

Among the numerous non-health social actions provided by the Red Cross in Alhama include institutional and occupational training, the intervention of children and young people with integration difficulties, elderly or disabled persons and all collaborations in the fight against poverty. and social exclusion.

In the specific case of the Red Cross ambulance, it should be noted that it provides its services with a minimum of a driver and a technician from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. 24 hours.

In this way, during 2017 the ambulance provided a total of 437 interventions, in which 514 people were treated, of which 272 were for warnings and emergencies and 242 for preventive services.

In this way, the Red Cross took part in 128 sports events, 20 events related to the patron saint festivities, 18 events with cultural and social events and 9 shows and concerts.

Among the interventions related to emergencies, the Red Cross attended 75 secondary transfers, 42 due to illness, 36 due to sports accident, 32 due to traffic accidents or 18 due to other types of unspecified accidents, among other services related to alcohol poisoning, problems in the home or at school or similar.
