Alhama sympathizes with Pablo's challenge (09/06/2018)

The municipality of Alhama de Murcia has collaborated in the initiative 'The challenge of Pablo', raising money through piggy banks distributed from the Consistory in shops, local hospitality and local educational centers.

The Councilor for Health, Marola Guevara, has delivered a check with the total amount of money received, 1,004.61 euros, to Margarita Vicente, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Totana, and Gregorio Martínez, member of the campaign.

The amount will go entirely to the NEN Association, family and friends of patients with Neuroblastoma.

Last March, a group of four people from Totana traveled 150 kilometers on foot for three days, passing through the municipalities of Cieza, Abarán, Blanca, Ricote, Ojós, Ulea, Villanueva del Río Segura, Archena, Lorquí, Ceutí, Alguazas, Las Torres de Cotillas, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Librilla, Alhama and Totana, with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the so-called 'Pablo's challenge'.

The solidary walk started on Wednesday March 14 from the City of Cieza and passed through Alhama de Murcia two days later, on the 16th.

The initiative has the support of the Association of relatives and friends of patients with Neuroblastoma (NEN).

They also ask for the collaboration of the administrations, businesses, companies and residents of the municipalities where the route runs.

WHAT IS PAUL'S CHALLENGE?

#ElRetoDePablo is a private initiative that raises funds for research against childhood cancer.

Pablo is a child of almost 5 years, diagnosed from 2 years and nine months of a stage IV Neuroblastoma, one of the lowest surviving pediatric tumors.

Every year, some 1,400 cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed in Spain and only 70 or 80 are Neuroblastomas, "which is why it is so important to continue research in order to increase that low survival rate, which is only 40% -50% in high neuroblastomas. risk, "they say.

Children must go through a very aggressive treatment, which can last between 15 and 18 months, if all goes well.

Chemotherapy, surgery, autologous bone marrow transplant, radiotherapy and, finally, immunotherapy.

After a year we have collected almost 50,000 euros, which have been donated entirely to Nen.org that collaborates with numerous projects throughout Spain.

Those interested can make their income in the account of the Nen Association: ES15 2100 3887 0402 0005 0136
