Six Alhama companies renew their accreditation with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS) (16/06/2017)

A total of 11 tourist companies have renewed their accreditation with the CETS this week, six of them located in Alhama de Murcia, in an event held in the Casa de la Cultura de Librilla.

The certificates are renewed every three years, and in 2017 those who have accredited to remain CETS have been the first to obtain this recognition in 2014: Hospedería Rural Casas Nuevas, Casa Postas Morata, Aula de Naturaleza 'Las Alquerías', Los Donceles, Hospedería Bajo el Cejo, Sierra Espuña Camping, Pan de El Berro Bakery, El Lebrillo and Tinaja Cottages, Cortijo Las Golondrinas, Photo Logistics and Ecoespuña SL Ecotourism.

The CETS is a proposal to progress effectively in the principles of sustainable tourism in protected natural areas, carrying out a local strategy with benefits for the Sierra Espuña Regional Park and its environment, for entrepreneurs and for the visitor.

The meeting, which took place last Tuesday, was chaired by the General Director of Medio Natural, Consuelo Rosauro, together with the Mayor-President of the Tourist Association of Sierra Espuña, María del Mar Hernández, the Mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Diego Conesa , The Mula Tourism Councilor, Francisca Imbernón and the Director of the OISMA, Faustino Martínez.

The director congratulated the companies that this year "renew their commitment to sustainable tourism and respect the values ​​of a Protected Natural Area through the realization and development of local strategies that aim at improving the environmental, social and environmental viability. The CETS, he added, "is much more than a quality brand, since it is a planning and participation tool that involves making an additional effort to convey to the visitor the importance of proper environmental behavior and the enjoyment of an experience Quality in a privileged environment ".

The companies collaborate actively and not only assume the commitment to carry out environmental improvement initiatives in their activity, but also support traditional economic activities, bet on improving local life and encourage collaborative work and joint promotion of a tourist destination Sustainable and quality, such as the Sierra Espuña Regional Park.

Before the act of renewal, the Forum of Follow-up of the CETS was held, where the 41 attendees approved the Report of the year 2016, evaluated the fulfillment of the Plan of Action and heard, through the CETS promoters, progress in The actions planned for this year 2017.

European Accreditation

The European Tourism Charter is a European-level accreditation awarded by the 'Europarc' Federation, through the relevant regional bodies, to protected natural areas that have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable tourism by working as a team, drawing up and implementing a strategy Tourism and a plan of action adapted to the particularities of the territory.

The European Charter Network has 157 sustainable destinations in 19 European countries, of which 44 are Spanish.

"The regional park of Sierra Espuña and its environment is credited with the CETS as Protected Natural Area since 2012, being for the moment the only destination in the Region of Murcia that owns it," stated Rosauro, and explained that "for maintenance, A new strategy and an Action Plan comprising different actions until 2021 were developed during 2016. "

Currently, a total of 74 entities collaborate and participate in the project, of which 42 are establishments dedicated to tourist activities, in addition to ten regional and local administrations and 22 associations and other agents of the territory.

The tourist companies accredited since 2014 in the Region of Murcia are 18 and belong to the municipalities of Aledo, Alhama de Murcia, Librilla, Mula, Pliego and Totana, or they develop their activity in the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña or its surroundings.

To the eleven already named must add the following: Antares.
