The Footwear and Plastic Technology Center leads two pioneer development projects in Europe (22/11/2016)

The mayor of Alhama, Diego Conesa, visited this morning CETEC on the occasion of the recent concession that has received this center two high-tech projects for research and development of new plastics (bioplastics).

The first of them, framed within the line "Horizon 2020" of the EU, aims to create a biodegradable agricultural cover.

It is the only project of these characteristics that has reached the Region of Murcia, counting with a level of aid of 100%, in which a consortium of Spanish, Dutch and German companies participates.

The second, also unprecedented, granted nationally for the development of a plastic material intended for the packaging of meat.

The goal is to manufacture a tray that preserves the food in optimum conditions and for much longer, with the exclusive use of 100% natural products.

In it participates a national consortium, with companies Murcian, where the contribution of content is realized through a center of investigation of the Galician meat, as well as a cattle cooperative.

Its director, Rafael Losana explained that these two projects "start immediately and the pretension is that we are already in the market and with the finished product in 2 years."

The Shoe Technology Center (CETEC) was inaugurated in 1994, built with funds from the Institute of Promotion of the Region of Murcia (INFO) and settled on municipal land in the Industrial Park of Alhama.

It is a reference center at national level, oriented towards the dynamization and execution of R & D projects, as well as the incorporation of new technologies to companies.

Its activity is oriented towards the development of products, materials and means taking care of the needs of the company, in particular of the footwear and plastic sector.

Since 2014 it has participated in more than twenty European development calls, obtaining eight stamps of excellence.

These two new projects represent a considerable financial injection (€ 2.6 million) which will allow the center to carry out important future activities in addition to those currently under way.

CETEC also has part of a ship next to the Municipal Psychosocial Care Center, necessary for the expansion of this space, which seeks the agreement with the Autonomous Community to become a day center.

The commitment of Alhama City Council is to provide CETEC with a place with greater capacity for its development work in the immediate environment.

"We have two economic and production models, one based on cheap products and low wages, and another that is based on productivity and R & D & I. We will continue to focus on this center so that it can Continue to investigate, even re-arrange school visits so they can know. "

Losana thanked the City Council for the support it offers them.

"The fact of being able to count on the ship has allowed us to carry out projects that until now were unthinkable, we have been able to dispose of machinery and locate it in the vicinity of the facilities," he said.

For his part, Salvador Gómez, Executive Secretary of the Industrial Footwear Association in the Northwest, highlighted the recovery of the sector after the crisis generated by the irruption of companies in Asia.

"We have a lot of contact with CETEC to reinforce this sector, very creative of employment, and in view of the international markets are getting tired of the Asian product is an opportunity that has to take advantage."

Gómez has defended the integration and federation with the rest of the footwear associations of the Region, in which they are working, to create a footwear center "with the objective of having a strong business representation to provide solutions to what companies need , Especially before the administrations ".

This sector currently has several axes of work:

TRAINING: the improvement of the sector has come by the improvement in quality, differing from the cheap product.

The people who left it are very old or there is no spare and the market demands to be fashionable and reinvent each season.

INNOVATION: renewing a machine that is very obsolete and that is a great consumer of energy.

This is where CETEC has a fundamental role in the product.

FAIR ATTENDANCE: Despite the Internet, it is still important to be present in international markets.

ONLINE: Going deeper because exponential growth is affecting traditional sales channels.

In 2015 the shoe sector in the Region exported 100 million euros, of which two thirds of the companies belong to the northwestern region, the other to Alhama with Abanilla and Yecla.

There are about 70 footwear companies in the Region.

Among the 40 partners, some 700 jobs are estimated, surpassing 2000 in the middle of the campaign.
