The City Council extends its agreement with the Red Cross for the management of aid and care against Covid-19 (05/05/2020)

The mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Mariola Guevara, and the president of the Red Cross in the municipality, Jesús S.

Gilabert, have signed a new cooperation agreement with the aim of improving the quality of life and well-being of those residents who lack resources economic or that may be at risk of social exclusion, applying aid to care for urgently needed situations. The City Council, through its Department of Social Welfare, contributes for this year a total of 55,000 euros to the Alhama Red Cross to deal with this type of emergency and provide coverage to families and residents registered in the municipality, in addition to meeting social needs derived from the social emergency caused by Covid-19 and collaborate jointly in educational volunteer activities. The municipal center of Social Services will be in charge of managing these demands, studying and checking each case before transferring it to the collaborating entity.

Once the need has been confirmed, the Red Cross will be in charge of processing it. The agreement will benefit those residents who are registered in Alhama and who, due to socio-family, economic or labor circumstances, have difficulties to autonomously attend to the coverage of their basic needs.

It establishes aid for the basic equipment of the house, as well as for minor repairs, basic installations and urgent adaptations; also for the payment of household supplies that are subject to a cut notice; help with medication expenses; for dental treatments, glasses, prosthetics and orthoses; and for travel and transportation expenses. As a novelty, this year a specific help line has been incorporated for the care of people or families with social needs derived from the Covid-19 health emergency, for food and personal and household hygiene, medicines, as well as the rest of typologies described in the previous paragraph. A minimum amount of 50 euros and a maximum of 500 euros per year per family is established, although it may be increased by another 300 euros to support the processes of integration and labor integration of people or families who are in a situation of social exclusion, and must be attached to a plan for family intervention, socio-education or continued social and labor insertion.

Likewise, the maximum annual amount may be increased by 100 euros more for those individuals or families who prove that their situation of economic precariousness is a social consequence of the Covid-19 emergency. The applicant must be registered and reside in Alhama de Murcia for at least the last three months and not exceed the income limit established in the agreement.
