In the garden of Los Mártires, a tribute will be held to the deported alhameños in the Nazi concentration camps, on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.
This event is organized by IES Miguel Hernández, his feminist committee 'Monique Cánovas Mulero', with the collaboration of the City Council of Alhama and Amical de Mauthausen.
In May 2018, the Alhama City Council inaugurated this monument to the Alhameño victims of the Nazi concentration camps: Francisco Aledo Martínez, José Cerón García, Antonio Martínez Baños, Braulia Cánovas Mulero and José María Martínez Costa.
This initiative is part of the measures included in the Law of Historical Memory as thanks and reparation to the more than ten thousand Spaniards who were deported to the Nazi concentration camps, deprived of their Spanish nationality by decision of the Franco government, declared stateless and which more than five thousand lost their lives there.
On the other hand, Enric Garriga, president of Amical de Mauthausen, visited Alhama last November on the occasion of the presentation of the book by Alfonso Cerón 'Alhameños in the Nazi concentration camps.
The recovered memory ', in which he describes the horror of this stage of history and pays tribute to our five neighbors who were among the Spaniards who passed through these places of torture and death.
Garriga offered to the students of the IES Miguel Hernández a conference explaining the work that they carry out from this association, which represents those who were held in this field and in the rest of the fields of the German Reich III, as well as their family and friends , both of the survivors and those killed and deceased.
